Ahoy! This month, we provided 39 East County residents with kayaking and paddleboarding at the San Diego Bay! Our amazing partner, Chula Vista Water Sports, provided vessels and lessons so the families could stay afloat. Before long, they found their sea legs and were paddling as gracefully as swans. By all accounts, everyone had an oar-some time. Here are what a few of our participants had to say:

“We had so much fun. I really appreciate the opportunity for my kids to get closer to nature.”
“Can't wait to do it again in the future!”
“We loved coming here and will continue to come.”
“We appreciate EDI and staff for taking care of families and kids.”

We'll be hitting the water again and making a splash with more coastal Family Day adventures next month!

EDI is thrilled to offer Family Day events like this one as part of our Education Through Recreation program. This program is funded by the Outdoor Equity Grants Program, created through AB 209 and administered by California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services.

We had a wonderful time at our Moth Night for EDI members in celebration of National Moth Week! We observed various moth species and a beautiful sunset. Surprisingly, no scorpions! As the Pallid Bat's favorite treat, perhaps they've been snacking!

We are beyond ecstatic to share the Woollypod Milkweed (Asclepias eriocarpa; first picture) at our Milkweed Farm has produced seed pods for the FIRST time!! This marks the beginning of an amazing new chapter at the farm. We cannot wait to collect seeds and begin expansion of our Woollypod inventory! Also pictured is our Narrowleaf Milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis; second picture) showing off many seed pods, as well. We love a happy farm, and it wouldn't be possible without our incredible Conservation team and volunteer heroes!

We’ve been having so much fun with our Nature Explorer Club at the El Cajon Branch Library and Camp Cajon schools this past month! So far, we’ve provided 224 students with 18 days of fun, nature-themed activities like making native wildflower seed balls and habitat collages, mapping schoolyard climate heat and cleaning up litter, and learning how to prepare for camping trips.
