Please join us for "Grassland Birds" of Rancho Jamul Ecological Reserve on Saturday, December 11th at 8:00 am. We will stroll through grasslands that are currently under a grazing lease, which has helped control many nonnative weed species and removed dense thatch. The result has been very beneficial for grassland birds occuring on the Reserve, including winter visitor raptors such as ferruginous hawk, prairie falcon, and merlin. Other species we might see: burrowing owl, red-tailed hawk, kestrel, peregrine falcon, western meadowlark, lark sparrow, vesper sparrow, savannah sparrow, and many more. We will have two spotting scopes, but bring binoculars, if you have them.

We ask that you try to get to the property between 7:30 and 7:45, so we can let you in the gate. Please bring water and a snack, and wear closed-toed walking shoes.
