City Nature Challenge at Vernal Pools

  • San Diego bay National Wildlife Refuge 1026 Gunpowder Point Dr Chula Vista, CA, 91910 United States (map)

Join the City Nature Challenge with a team bioblitz at Shinohara vernal pools with SDNWR biologist John Martin.

Vernal pools are one of San Diego County's imperiled habitats, supporting the endangered San Diego fairy shrimp, Otay tar plant, San Diego button celery, San Diego mesa mint and many other rare and threatened species. This is a great opportunity to explore these pools with someone who understands the value of and species supported by these unique wetlands while participating in the CNC. Meet at the Living Coast Discovery Center parking lot in Chula Vista at 8am, with an approximate return-to-parking-lot time of 1pm. Participants will shuttle from there to Shinohara and beyond. There are no facilities and no bathrooms, please bring plenty of water and snacks.

This team is limited to 10 people. Please register by contacting info@earthdiscovery.org for more information and specifics.
